The Saab 340A operated by SOL Líneas Aéreas departed from Neuquén, Argentina, for a domestic flight to Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina. 19 passengers and 3 crewmembers were onboard. The plane crashed during its cruise, killing all the 22 people onboard.
The plane was enroute when the crew declared emergency, just before it disappeared from radar screens south of Los Menucos, Argentina. The wreckage was discovered around 30 kilometers South of Los Menucos.
Argentina's National Meteorologic Services had issued a significant weather warning for the large area including the accident site, indicating severe icing between FL070 and FL180 with turbulence below FL150. The crew had requested to the air traffic controllers to descend out of icing conditions seconds before the radar contact was lost.
