The Antonov An-28 operated by Surinamese carrier Blue Wing airlines took off from Paramaribo, Suriname, bound to Benzdorp in the east of Suriname, near the
border with French Guiana. There were 17 passengers and 2 crewmembers onboard.
The twin-engine aircraft attempted to land on the Benzdorp airstrip, but there was another aircraft on the runway at the time. The An-28 performed a
go-around but it then crashed in a wooded hillside. The aircraft plunged into the woods some 150 meters parallel to the airstrip. According to accounts
of eyewitnesses, the plane was already in its landing approach when the pilot tried to pull up again. However, the aircraft suddenly veered left and
plunged nose down into the woods, followed by at least three explosions. The accident has left all 19 passengers and crew dead.
