Chilean Air Force CASA C-212 plane crash

The CASA C-212 Aviocar belonging to the Chilean air force took off from Santiago, Chile, for a flight to the Juan Fernandez Islands, Chile. 15 passengers and 6 crewmembers were onboard. The plane crashed while approaching its destination. All the occupants have been killed.
Strong gusts of wind and rain squalls prevailed at the time of the accident on the remote island. The aircraft circled twice over the runway before starting the approach. The plane then disappeared from radar screen during the approach, and crashed into the ocean. The wreckage has been found about 1 kilometer (0.6 NM) away from the landing strip.
Juan Fernandez Islands are located 830 kilometres (450 NM) off the Chile’s Pacific coast.
