Sun Way Ilyushin IL-76TD plane crash

The Ilyushin IL-76 freighter operated by Sun Way was on a freight flight from Karachi, Pakistan, to Khartoum, Sudan, carrying 8 crew and 31 tons of relief supplies for the Sudan. The plane crashed shortly after take off into building, killing all the 8 people onboard and 4 people on ground.

The plane was attempting to return to Karachi airport shortly after takeoff. Traffic Controllers reported one of the engines on fire as the aircraft climbed out of Karachi Airport. The crew didn’t succeed in maintaining the plane airborne, and the plane crashed into buildings of the Naval Housing Colony near Dalmia two minutes after takeoff. The Russian-made plane IL-76 missed several densely populated apartment blocks by a few hundred yards (meters). About 20 houses were damaged or destroyed though most were under construction and believed to be unoccupied. 4 people were killed on ground and many other injured.

Witnesses reported the plane in flames as it plunged towards the ground. The aeroplane exploded in a massive fireball.
