Omsukchan, RussiaThe Antonov AN-12 operated by Avis Amur took off from from Magadan, Russia, for a cargo flight to Keperveyem, Russia. 11 crewmembers and 16 tons of cargo were onboard. The plane crashed while in cruise, in Russian remote far eastern region. All the 11 crewmembers perished.

The plane was en-route, when the crew reported a fuel leak and an engine fire and said its intention to return to Magadan airport. Radar contact with the aircraft was lost about 170 NM (315 km) northeast of Magadan. The wreckage has been located a few hours after the crash in the area where the radar contact was lost, 6 NM (10 km) away from Omsukchan. The plane was destroyed.

The plane was owned by Komsomolsk-on-Amur aircraft building plant and had been leased to Avis-Amur. The plane was carrying 16 tons of food supplies.
